岩手県宮古市田老は、1611 年、1896 年、1933 年に町を壊滅させた津波を防ぐために、高さ 10 メートル、全長2kmに及ぶ防潮堤を44年の歳月をかけて建設しました。 しかし、2011 年 3 月 11 日に高さ17メートル (124 フィート) の地震と津波が日本を襲ったとき、護岸は町を保護しませんでした。 In Taro, Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture, it took 44 years to build a 10-meter-high, 2-km-long seawall to protect against the tsunamis that devastated the town in 1611, 1896, and 1933. But when a 17-meter (124-foot) earthquake and tsunami struck Japan on March 11, 2011, the seawall did not protect the town.

3月15日早朝、福島第一原発第2、4号機で爆発。子供の頭にビニールを被せ避難所の体育館から他県へ避難する家族。 被爆した物質を吸い込まないために一時的には有効手段と聞いた。   福島県 いわき市 四倉 In the early morning of March 15, there were explosions at the Unit 2 and 4 of the Fukushima 1 Nuclear Power Plant. ある父親は息子のことを「落ち込まないわけではないと思う。自分の部屋、物が全部無くなったわけですから。子供なりに気遣っているところもある」と言っていた。 子供達の明るい笑顔は復興へ向かう大人達の強力な原動力だ。 避難所の体育館でテレビのアニメを見ている子供達。 宮城県 石巻市 2011.3.26 A father said about his son, “It’s hard for him not to get depressed. 津波から生還したゴン、13才。 「震災の夜、避難先からやっと自宅に戻り、屋根の上からゴンと名前を呼んだら、ガレキの中からフェーンと弱々しい鳴き声が聞こえた。 ゴンは犬小屋とガレキの隙間にいた。もし首輪を繋いでいなかったら流されて死んでいただろう。ガレキにもみくちゃにされ、ボクサーのように 顔が腫れて、油と泥にまみれ、水を飲んでも 声がガウガウだった。大きな怪我もなく奇跡的に助かった」飼い主談。 岩手県 田老 Gon, 13 years old, survived the tsunami. "On the night of the earthquake, I finally returned to my house from the evacuation site, and when I called out Gon from the roof, I heard a weak cry coming from inside the rubble. Gon was between the kennel and the rubble. If I hadn't tied the collar, I would have been swept away to death.I was mobbed by the rubble, my face was swollen like a boxer, covered in oil and mud, and even though I drank water my voice was hoarse. 岩手県陸前高田市竹駒町は海から5km離れている。「まさかここまで津波が来るはずがないという頭があった」と家を片付ける。津波は山の間を抜けてここまで流れた。 津波で母を亡くした。寒くてかわいそうと想いタンスの中に遺影を飾っていた。 Takekoma Town, Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture, is five kilometers from the sea. 震災後7日目、信号も復旧していなかった岩手県釜石市で郵便配達を再開した。彼女は今日も仮設住まいの人たちへ全国からの手紙を届ける。 Seven days after the earthquake, mail delivery resumed in Kamaishi City, Iwate Prefecture, where signals had not yet been restored. Today she also delivers letters from all over the country to people living in temporary housing.
